Mutton Pulao

  • 1lbs goat mutton
  • 2cups basmati rice
  • 4cups water
  • 1tsp salt as needed
  • 1medium onion finely chopped
  • 6tbsp yogurt 
  • ¼tsp garam masala powder 
  • 1serrano pepper
  • ⅛tsp orange color optional
  • ⅓cup olive oil extra virgin
  • 4tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 4green cardamoms
  • 5cloves
  • 6black peppercorns

  • 4tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1cinnamon stick
  • 2bay leaves
  • 3black cardamoms

  • 5inch ginger roughly chopped with
  • 30 cup garlic cloves


  1. Thoroughly wash basmati rice and soak in water for 30 mins.
  2. Drain rice & discard the water from the rice.
  3. Prepare the 2 muslin bags.
  4. Turn Instant Pot to sauté mode, add water, and bring it to boil.
  5. Add both Muslin bags in the pot.
  6. Bring all of this to a boil, then add the meat and mix well.
  7. Cover Instant Pot lid and press the pressure option and put pressure for 14 minutes or until the meat is tender.
  8. In a separate pot on the stove, on medium heat add oil and add cumin seeds, green cardamom, cloves, black peppercorns.
  9. Add onion and sauté the onion until it’s brown.
  10. Add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
  11. Take out meat only from Instant Pot and transfer it to pot.
  12. Now add in the yogurt and mix well.
  13. Add the garam masala powder and mix well.
  14. Now add the green pepper and mix well.
  15. Add the only 4 cups of stock to the pot.
  16. Add rice with meat mixture and mix well.
  17. Add salt and mix well. Bring the mixture to boil on high heat.
  18. Let it all cook for 5-7 min on medium heat.
  19. Cover the lid on the pot with foil, cover the pot with the foil lid, put the tawa on the stove and put the pot on top of the tawa and cook it for 5 minutes on low -medium heat.
  20. Turn the stove to low and let it cook for 10-15 minutes.
  21. Serve it hot with Raita and Spicy Red Garlic Chutney!
