Congee (rice porridge)

Congee is an easy and economical healthy meal that you can garnish in many ways. You can add any of the ingredients listed under “for serving” to the top of cooked congee


    • 1 cup Royal® Basmati rice
    • 8 cups chicken stock


  • For serving:


  • Poached eggs
  • Poached and shredded chicken
  • Hot chili oil
  • Peanuts
  • Sliced avocado
  • Grated fresh ginger
  • Cilantro
  • Soy sauce,
  • Green onions
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Sautéed greens
  • Salt and pepper


  1. Rinse Royal® Basmati Rice in a mesh strainer under running water until the water runs almost clear.
  2. Put Royal® Basmati Rice in a pot with the chicken stock. Bring the stock to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cook with the lid on for 45-60 minutes. The mixture should have the texture of porridge. Once done you can add more broth or water to achieve the desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Top the congee as desired.
